/vrpg/ is a place to discuss all types of role-playing video games, including single-player, multi-player, and massively multi-player, turn-based and real-time action, western-style and JRPG.

Does this mean RPGs are banned on other video game boards? No! /vrpg/ is just a separate board specifically focused on RPGs where discussions about your favorite games can thrive.

Please familiarize yourself with the rules and remember to use the spoiler function where appropriate!

Please note that, like /v/, "Generals"—long-term, one-after-the-other, recurring threads about a specific game are not permitted on /vrpg/. Such threads belong on >>>/vg/.

I have been playing the pixel remaster of this and so far it is the only Final Fantasy game I have played that doesn't completely suck.

Finished with Edgar on my quest to make super broken characters, also picked up dual casting. Now I just need to gather up Locke and learn Ultima. Kind of interesting how character power is moreso tied to gear rather than leveling. While you could grind its far better to simply go treasure hunting, which makes traveling around the new world feel rewarding.

Noooo what are you trying to do, have FUN? Playing video games?? We can’t have that, you must always use a guide and min max. Don’t you know that Setzer’s skills uses RNG, which is a no-no??? You must always go for the highest numbers all the time! You

Oh! Wow! I'm grateful to have stumbled upon your thread! I've the American version Final Fantasy 3 on my SNES App through my SmartPhone. The pixel remaster looks so much better though. Either way I'd be satisfied. I'm sure you know at the time this game came out on Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) there were mainly two types of battle systems: (1) Time-Based and (2) Real-Time. Of course the first one FF3. Have you ever heard of Secret of Mana? It's also made by SquareSoft. It would be Real-Time the second one. I noticed over the years Real-Time gained the upper hand by far and remained superior. I can already tell you you're part of a chess team. I think FF3 is much much faster than chess. Chess is an old old game. FF3 is I'd say much bark than bite though. SOM (Secret of Mana) is not only bark bite and brains yet as well a treasured masterpiece to me. I apologize if I've offended you in anyway. I'm just so glad to find your thread!

Seeing as how Eiyuden seems to have left a lot of people unsatisfied, and half the discussion ended up being suikoden focused anyways, why not a proper thread.

Favorite game?
Favorite Castle?
Favorite rune?
Favorite Star of Destiny?

In my order
3, 1, Soul Eater, Chris.
Feel free to continue to talk shit about EC too if you'd like.

Thanks anon, and apologies it is an off-topic query.

My favorite Suikoden base is still Toran Castle from Suikoden 1. It's a wondrous location and I'm stealing it for my ACKs game because my players cannot into PSX era JRPGs.

No problem, this is a slower board and the game came out about two weeks ago. I think some (or most) Anons have beaten Eiyuden already. As of now, there have been 560 bugs reported, no idea how many have been fixed outside of the Lam recruitment bug and the cooking game (allegedly).

between Morrowind and Skyrim they were pretty good but the cracks were showing between that time too.
Post skyrim they dropped the ball hard.
>>

>morrowfaggot thinks zoomer is an insult
I'm 43, played every elder scrolls game on release, and prefer dungeon crawling rather than whatever boring shit morrowind has to offer. Morrowind is the pinnacle example of "I like this game because it makes me look smart" yet you aren't smart enough to not be filtered by 90% of the games you actually play, and are controlled by your predisposition almost entirely (i.e. you watched video essays about morrowind superiority and it magically became your own opinion)

Now create an argument of your own, and if this is impossible for you i recommend watching a video essay or two first.
>>
>>3479223
nta but i think morrowind is liked just because its weird lookin

>>3479223
>just watched yet another video essay about how kino Daggerfall is, probably wasn't alive when it came out, yet projects that everyone else who offers mild disagreement about a video game must get their opinions from video essays instead of playing them and forming their own opinion
>immediately jumps to being weirdly defensive and hostile instead of being confident in his opinions and preferences
>thinks other people "like games because it makes me look smart" instead of simply enjoying them because they think they're fun to play
>durr you got filtered by [???]

Vampires traditionaly were obscene monsters. Then they turned into seductive embidiment of decadence, then byronic heroes. When were they "badasses with swords" exactly?
>Comfy european fantasy setting
Too much of a mutt to pick something specific so went with generic "Europe", eh?

>Vampires traditionaly were obscene monsters.
It's a way of speaking, anon. Surely you agree that writing down "real vampire which fulfils the pure expression of the Byronic ideal", isn't very appealing even to people who like the genre, and comes off rather pretentious.
>so went with generic "Europe", eh?
You should play the game, it has a specific historical location. Too specific, maybe, since the game would benefit from being located in a broader and more vague European setting, given that's more digestible for the average player.

Just finished the main story and I really don't get why this game is so maligned. Did auto-battle really filter journalists that hard? Considering strategic orientation of the battle system toward paradigm deck composition and paradigm shifts, auto-battle was a good and useful mechanic. I think the "hall way sim" complaint is overblown, the linear and open segments are well-balanced. People complain about the "20 hour tutorial" which I really don't understand, the early-to-mid part of any JRPG is going to be a different kind of experience than the late-to-postgame, and this game does a good job differentiating the segments. Two-man battle teams present a different, somewhat more desperate challenge than the late game where you have all options at your disposal. And, I love the menus, I love the UI design overall and don't get why people complain so much about the Crystarium. Even though its sections are more linear than the Sphere Grid, you actually have pretty significant control over how you develop the characters until the deep post-game.

Admittedly, Taejin's Tower and Oerba feel unfinished, the weapon upgrade system is tedious, and the summons felt like wasted potential. But this game delivers on graphics, gameplay and story imho.

What did you think of FF13? Should I keep going with the post-game grind or just jump right into XIII-2?

Is TTW the best or the worst way to play Fallout 3?

Fallout 3 is designed for random, aimless exploration. New Vegas isn't.
Fallout 3 has plenty of great dungeons, interesting towns and stories spread across the map.
>New Vegas only have a handful of real dungeons (Vaults 22, 34, and 11 + the H&H tools company)
>Those dungeons are all horribly designed and really fucking annoying.
>Most side locations in New Vegas are for high leveled characters. Even ones not far from Primm and the Mojave Outpost.
>Most non-quest important locations in New Vegas are one room areas with no loot except a star bottle cap.
>There are very few random encounters to spice up travelling on foot.
>The game is poorly optimized and will crash if the player goes too long without fast travelling.
>>
>>3479145
I wish I could delete the intro+main quest from fallout 3 and just treat it as a post apocalypse wander game.
Also personally I'd delete oasis because its stupid.
And I'd make the standard BoS armor be the fallout 1 inspired design and not the fo3 one.
I wish I could mod.
Id get rid of voice acting too
I'd compress this bitch of a game to 1.5gb or less
>>
>>3479160
Unironically, if you shot the guy who came up with voice acting being the new gimmick for Oblivion the moment he thought of it, then beat Emil to death (if they're not the same retard) I think we'd have a much healthier gaming culture and far more good RPGs, FPSes, and fantasy games.
>>
>>3479145
I used to always want a game where Obsidian did the story, overworld and major side quests, and Bethesda came in after to add some mindless fun afterwards with dungeons and setpieces and little rewards for exploring.

Now neither company is what they used to be, and I'd rather just play with mods.
>>
>>3479145
so the thing to do is play TTW, start in FO3, run around the whole map and explore everything, do the DLCs (except Broken Steel),and then take the tram to new vegas and play an actual decent story?

LE isn't bad at all but endgame is a bit shallow. GD retains more depth over the whole title, with no actual end game to speak of once you kill the superbosses, and it is getting an expansion so GD keeps the crown even though it is on a dated and jankier engine when it comes to the actual action.

If you want just a co-op game, make an actual friend and drag them in GD, then into your freezer, is much more fun than LE's forced ladder and anonymous mmo-ish environment.
>>
>>3476812
this one is decent, the build complexity is rewarding to experiment with and the only problem i have with it is the content being overly grindy and build improvements become too small and sparing during the late game, still its 1000x better than POE which has all the exact same problems but worse.

>>3476901
kill yourself if you like grim dawn, it's redditor basedboy version of d2 and the trash multiclassing autism ruins the skill build complexity (even though it seems like it should do the opposite) and the itemization is even worse than the skill building mechanics. the game is a perfect example of the audience being sold on an idea, rather than the actual product. "people" that like grim dawn could be sold on bathing in dust and dirt if it meant they were intellectually advanced for doing so.
>>

>the game is a perfect example of the audience being sold on an idea, rather than the actual product.
Too true m8. It should be telling that when you talk about ARPGs in general all the Grim Yawn faggots shut up because they have no idea what they are talking about, but when you mention Diablo all the faggots that were filtered by ACTUAL kino (Diablo 2) flock with their drivel about "spiritual successor" or whatever.

The game is for people who get their opinions off of reddit and youtube video essays, they don't play ARPGs. don't even trust their opinion if they say otherwise.

I've played every ARPG under the sun, and the "worst" ones, like Wolcen and WH40k are leagues better than Grim Yawn. It's just that Grim Yawn has an army of reddit fanboys that will defend the game on based on vapid reasoning, and they will defend the game fervently because rather than play ARPGs, they played Grim Yawn a few times, and spend the rest of their time circlejerking about it's superiority

While most of your points are accurate, they didn’t “remove most of the content” of 5th ed, they couldn’t get the license and so they were stuck with the minimal open source version of the rules and hence had to fill in the gaps with homebrew. Also, it was in early access at the same time as bg3, and bg3 had a shit jumping mechanic (manually order each party member to jump across a gap one at a time) and Solasta had a superior “issue one move order for party and they all jump across” which bg3 blatantly copied after criticism, which is funny.
