Risky 1 is harder but neither games are all that hard once you get the hang of them. 1 is more punishing when you don't know what you're doing but also far easier to trivialize when you do. For difficulty I'd recommend going for OG 1 with the Starstorm mod on the highest difficulty, you'll miss out on some Returns QoL but it's still the best Risky experience there is as of now. You can also mod 2 to make it as ridiculously difficult as you want but it's not as fun, just turns into a boring clusterfuck usually.

In terms of difficulty I'd say Returns > 2 > 1
1 has a learning curve due to some of the jank, but once you get how the game works it's pretty easy unless you're playing Starstorm or /v/ rules.
2 can be hard because enemies tend to just 1shot you, but at the same time certain characters/items trivialize the game, and the final boss is lame. RiskyMod/RiskyStarterPack is the go-to in these threads, as they both were directly designed around hosts here.
Returns is like 1 but the enemies deal a lot more damage. Consistently clearing Monsoon on this is the hardest in the series, but some of that difficulty comes from poor game design (Blighteds just 1shot you, Overloading enemies deal fuckhuge unavoidable damage, flying enemy spam that over half the cast has no way of dealing with). Despite its flaws I think it overall feels smoother to play than 1, but the lack of mods/big lobbies prevents it from having staying power once you unlock everything.

If you're going to try any of them, just grab 1 + Starstorm from here as a starting point, and disable Music Remix and Kill Remaining Enemies in the lobby rulebook.

tl;dr After 6 years in the ground, cult-classic hero shooter hybrid got a proper release that everyone can actually play, and with none of the corporate bullshit and mismanagement that killed it prematurely last time (just a shaky release with bad bugs). New faster gamemode, Rush (aka retard brawl, much simpler objectives, non-evolving maps and insta-max-level on your preset build), all maps have been touched-up, two new characters are out, a ton of adjustments / bugfixes, and there's stated post-release support.

Crossplay is fully functional too - so don't be shy, post ID and play with us if you've got nobody else to have fun with!

Kinda like a hero shooter, but good. Dedicated melee+shooter characters, stamina management to balance them out, solid skill ceiling and gameplay expression, highly-custom abilities, non-instant TTK, and lots of depth past that without being too hard to get into. Rough around the edges in areas, but there's a reason people played it offline on hacked servers for 6 years.

The /vm/ Ruins & Riches server has returned, this time on the Adventurers of Akalabeth fork. Unlike other forks, AoA is mostly bug fixes and QOL tweaks. Of particular note is being able to craft in bulk and get skill increases from each item crafted. I did revert the strange portal change. Having a return portal is gay and misses the point.

I've also made some other changes to keep the content from getting too easy too quickly. First is magic damage against monsters is reduced from 200% to 125%. Second is removing the 20% drop chance for messages in a bottle that all sea creatures get. This made it far too easy to sail around or go to sea dungeons and hoard treasure maps for artifacts. Now just like base UO you can only get them from fishing, krakens and leviathans.

Changes from default settings:
>stat gain every 10m instead of 15
>vendors always buy rare items
>need line of sight to see mobs
>player corpse bones persist for a year
>no hunger/thirst inside banks, inns or houses
>all creature races start as evil
>vendors have a chance to sell crafting resources

To connect, change the IP in settings.json to 15.204.209.63. The server is in Virginia and it was fine for eurofags last time.

Global servers didn't have much complaints about the elixirs for the first ~4 or so months of ivory tower. The alpha males hitting 1620 back then did it through leaps costing 2x/3x of current prices and no books. They understood how to handle lengthy progression systems and just chugged on with elixirs like they did with honing to 1620.
With Thaemine release, the redditors spending all their gold on building 1600x6 rosters started pushing 1610 with leapstone prices crashing. They were too unskilled to kill nerfed(x2) thaemine and honed to 1620. Three weeks later, they realized elixir 40 isn't just given out to them like the honing mats were.
Westoids don't hate elixirs and transcendence, only the weak ones do.

Always has been: poor weapon balancing, movement being inferior to camping, boring titan gameplay overall as well as in TvT and TvP + poor balancing in both, smart pistol, lol lmao even 20Hz tickrate and etc.
The only thing that saves this game for me is the unique movement system in which there is a bunch of stuff to learn, but it’s debatable that this system is exactly the developers' merit, and not the engine of the game on which it is made and speedrunners.

GW1 Guild Wars 1 thread, hall of heroes edition

GW1 is alive and well anniversary festival is going on, and our /vm/ guild has been surging with players come join us!

Lately we've been dipping our feet into PvP and badly playing HA, made it to hall of heroes a few times and have done not too bad for a group of people who've never done HA or PvP before in GW1. Future plans for some GvG scrimmages along with some endgame dungeons we typically run at least 2 meetups per week. Friday which is campaign prog day, and saturday which is end game dungeons.

THIS WEEKS SCHEDULE:
Friday May 3rd - 7 PM EST Proph Prog (we are at Iron Mines of Moladune)
Saturday May 4th - SoO dervway? (check next post) I might be busy on this day however. Time undecided.

Future week plans include GvG scrimmages, and potentially some RA games/bot bullying.

I'm convinced that the 64 player mode is populated mostly by disguised bots because I can't conceive any other way that out of a 32 player team there can be only a maximum of like 4 defending the objective at any given time. Especially when the objective is literally just "fight on this spot". It's fucking absurd. Playing defense is just getting farmed for 20 minutes straight while your dumbfuck team-mates are off losing 1v1s in desolate corners of the map
