Server is accessible 24/7

A growing amount of sporadic activity can be found throughout most weekdays, official meetup starts Sundays at 5pm CST. Hope to see you there!

Be conscious of the canvas size and considerate of others with the size of your own drawings, make note of your own monitor resolution and magnification. Try to stick to 100-200% magnification-or even higher depending on your native resolution and the relative complexity of your intended work. Read the room, let's try and get the most out of each theme!

Canvas images posted to the thread are .jpg files at 70% scale and 40% quality to meet 4chan's resolution and file size requirements.

very pleasing colors, make sure to keep the glasses and the color ( / intensity ) of your lines in check and it will be very comfy because of the colors alone

the feet dont seem to be proper mirror images of each other

also in general, either keep your lines vague and soft OR commit to a clean, sharp line work pass after sketching, as it looks right now you seem to be headed into a unintentional mix between the two which betrays the strengths of each with their opposing weaknesses

>>7157414
very expressive face... you could push it further by making her body carry on her emotional state of anticipation (?) by having her for example stand on her toes and thrusting out her chest forward and hips back or something along those lines... sure its difficult with such a big frilly skirt to show subtle angles of her torso but you stand to gain a lot more life-like feeling if her whole body follows her mood

Do Cognitive Drawing. You can memorize literally anything, no matter how complex it is. Sometimes, I go through 10+ iterations, just because I keep failing and I keep gritting my teeth, and eventually, even the most impossible of references are within my grasp

I'm autistic, with ADHD. I can't focus on trying to get better at all or even come up with anything to draw without just giving up and going back to looking at my phone and doing something else.
I've legitimately never been able to commit myself to any serious hobby and have gotten lazy over the years with my only actual one which is writing and the only reason I'm good at writing is because I wanted people to be able to understand what the fuck I was saying and I wanted to write good stories because I thought I'd never be able to make them in a visual medium, but that's it. I've never been able to commit to a serious routine, schedule, or anything. I just sit in my room online doing basically nothing.
Everything I try doing looks so daunting and impossible. I tried learning Source Filmmaker as a teen and I gave up immediately because it looked too complicated. I tried learning how to make my own games in game maker, gave up immediately and never touched it. Even something like drawing just looks so complex and impossible. This is what it's like for everything I try doing.

It is 2024, and AI Art is now mainstream. The normies on Facebook and instagram love it.
Almost nobody gives a fuck about "AI art is theft", and corporations like WotC, Blizzard, Disney, Anime studios and art studios are now using AI art in secret.
I saw a skinny metro california guy "taking a stand against AI art theft" and it was the most cringe shit ever. Even if img2img is theft, the consumers don't give too many shits.
It was a nice run everyone, but the public has sided with AI, it has won.
We fought, we lost.
Now we rest.

>There is one thing not to do, and that is simply to drift along with the daily routine, making no extra effort. You will soon find yourself middle-aged, having done nothing more than routine jobs, and being little farther along than you were years ago. The extra effort is the difference between the great mass of mediocre artists and the comparatively small group of very good ones.
>And in Art, study can never stop. You will find sketches galore in the studio of the good man, with the paint quite fresh. The mediocre artist's sketches are old and dusty.
>I have seen so many middle-aged artists still hoping, whose samples are frayed at the edges, and thumb-marked with time. Sometimes it has been a matter of years since they sat down and actually did something to give their hopes any promise. They are plodding their lives away at something they hate, and doing nothing about it. These are the men who never seem to have had a chance. The truth is, they never seized a chance.

Thanks for the crit.
For context, this is the image I used as reference, from Huston's book. Usually I check for a higher quality image first but I forgot with this one. You're right, the one you posted would have been a lot better to study from. Although as you said it's kinda bad for a Sargent. I was a bit surprised to see him credited as the artist.

Reference aside, all of your critiques are spot on. I rushed through it, especially the drawing stage and the brushes weren't helping. For the next one I'll keep everything you said in mind.

His drawings are great, I'll definitely study them later. Also found this rip of his portrait drawing book if anyone else wants it. High-res but has that weird scanning/printing/compression effect on it if you zoom in.

For whatever reason, yellow-orange colours seem to me to be much more complex than others.
At most I don't like the amount of extra strokes I make, books say do as little as possible, and here I'm moving the brush up and down thousands of times.

Is copying, and understanding, Bridgman's over and over actually valuable?
I heard some artists talking about it, what do you guys think?

Bridgman was a much better teacher than Vanderpoel. He was a true educator, who knew how to get knowledge into his students. One of the tactics he used was to depict everything in line. If you've ever seen Bridgman's work, or the work of his students, you'd know they were great painters, every bit as good as Vanderpoel. But he purposefuly printed his books as pure lines and shapes only, because that facilitates better learning. Fussing over shading is a surefire way to stay permabeg. That is just one of the many high iq tactices Bridgman employed to immortalize his name among art students in the eons to come.

Vanderpoel? Vanderpoel is only used by autistic atelier fags who somehow think shiny rendering = better. just unusable for learning

The annoying thing about this schizo retard is he actually showed some promise, these drawings aren't bad, he was making progress.
But he had to be dramatic, and start scribbling over his drawings and writing "failure"over them like he's thirteen years old in some drama movie.
Move on, you gave up two years ago, why do you still post here to complain?
It wasn't your drawings that are bad or pathetic, it's your miserable whiny bitch ass attitude - that, and the fact that you're a massive retard, is why you failed.

are you tonkers?

File: dad9.png (216 KB, 733x990)

There's a lot of problems that arise from any attempt to independently write the tonkers lore. Most notably the lack of understanding as to why tonkers says tonk all the time. This would be so central to the character that to fail to understand the basis for this personality quirk is to make an unfaithful depiction of Tonk.
however, upon lenghty reflection, it's clear that Tonkers does not say "tonk" in the comic strips. As such it's not necessary to understand why, it may have just been some casual humor by the author for his pinups.
>>
bro just draw some fanart or something
>>
>>7157890
I suck at drawing, but eventually I might just be desperate enough for more tonker content. Litearlly been months since this guy disappeared and there's only been one fanart of tonkers. This is a problem.
>>
>>7157874
This whole tonk analysis is the best content of these threads in months. Like its genuinely a good thought out interpretation. I hope tonkers himself will see this someday.
